We are slowly starting to cooperate with the centre at Chalmers and GMV regarding establishment of a “integration platform” in Kisumu. GMV has the program “Urban Sustainable Development” which is active in Kisumu as well as Durban, Shanghai, Manchester and Gothenburg, and we are happy to develop a project together with them!

Gas for cooking and new guests!

We are happy to bring upp “Biogas for cooking” from project ideas to actually running projects so its making a progress.

The swedish student Claes will work on a project in Kisumu! The project is going to try to establish gas for cooking as an alternative to charcoal. In Kenya, the use of charcoal for cooking the main reason for the deforesting, which leads to significant environmental problems. It is the biggest climate impact. You can read more here.

Rasmus is also soon coming to us and stay in our guest house. He will be doing he’s thesis at Vi-skogen in Kisumu, he will work with information, graphics and print production for a agroforestry programme.

Rasmus and Cleas will also bring football clothes for teams in Nyalenda Football Cup. The cup started in 2006 and the idea was that a fotbollscup can create social networks for children in Nyalenda. You can read more in the blog post just below and in this post!

Lake Victoria Stars

Johan Unosson at Mölnlycke IF donated Football clothes to Lake Victoria stars in Kisumu.

The items were as follows:
A ball, a pair goalkeepers gloves, 2 match cards red and yellow.
17 – Full size, 12 – medium size and 12 – small size football clothes addidas Brand.

The team is very thankful for the support.

Duncan Onyango Oduor is the leader of the team, they received the football clothes i February.

Lake Victoria Stars are now preparing for the 3rd edition of Nyalenda Football League Cup 2010 starting this August.

Friends Pioneer have given support for Nyalenda Football League earlier. Have look here, the footballers in 1st edition!

Rosedalsgymnasiet

As written in an earlier blog post a class from Rosendals high school came to volunteer for us 09/10-2009 to 26/10-2009 and make their field studies in Kisumu.

The class was divided into different groups to work separately with different orientations.

On their website you can read about the group that worked with TIPTOP and St Joseph Secondary School and a lot more, so check it out!

FriendsPioneer – Joseph to Sweden!

In September and October this autumn 2010 Joseph Opiyo Olale is planning to come to Sweden. The plan is the same as in 2008, he will hold seminars, presentations, meet sponsors and look for new ones. If you are interested, please let us know and we can book a meeting!

Visit from Rosendalsgymnasiet! (Collage in Sweden)

The students made a field study course in Kisumu. Among other things, they interviewed the teachers of Joseph concerning the work and the ability and interest in union activities. They also took part in school (ST Joseph) activities and were in contact and we visited the VI-Skogen.

After the trip they started to collect money to Kenya!

We will keep you posted how it all ended (or maybe it’s just a start!)

Friendspioneer have three new employees. Bilah will be helping Friendspioneer on voluntary basis for some time, helping out with the administrative tasks.

Visit from Uppsala in October

The 10th of October we are expecting a visit from Rosendalsgymnasiet. They are going to volunteer for us for two week and some tours of course. Joseph met them while he visited Sweden 2008, that is how the contact started. We are happy to continue the friendship!
