 Kisumu is a city by the shore of Lake Victoria in western Kenya with a population of around 500 000. It is the third largest city in Kenya, the principal city of western Kenya, the capital of Nyanza Province. We support children in the slums area, Nyalenda, 2km east of Kisumu city center. As well as some children from the poor rural village Nyakatch, 20km east of Kisumu. In this area, the Luo-tribe is in majority.

 The Luo-tribe is the third biggest tribe in Kenya, after the Kikuyus and the Luhyas. Luos are found in the area that stretches from Southern Sudan, through northern Uganda and eastern Congo (DRC), into western Kenya, and ending in the upper tip of Tanzania. The main Luo livelihood used to be fishing, and up till today often is, especially in the rural areas close to lake Victoria. Their language is called DhoLuo.
